Bleached Skimmer, Libellula composita, at Quitobaquito Pond, Pima Co.: new location and early flying date for the state
April 20, 2019
Species: Bleached Skimmer
Location: Quitobaquito Pond
The Bleached Skimmer in Arizona is known from just a few widely scattered colonies in the southern half of the state, and it had until now not been observed until 27 April (http://azdragonfly.org/news/bleached-skimmer-libellula-composita-maricopa-co-az-new-early-flying-date-state; Bailowitz et al., 2015). On 20 April 2019, several individuals (one of which shown below), including one pair in tandem, were seen at Quitobaquito Pond in Pima Co. This observation establishes a new location for the species and extends its known flight period in the state.
