Spot-tailed Dasher, Micrathyria aequalis, at Quitobaquito Pond, Pima Co.: new early flying date for the state
April 20, 2019
Species: Spot-tailed Dasher
Location: Quitobaquito Pond
The Spot-tailed Dasher in Arizona is a rare species with just a handful of records at fewer than 10 locations. On 20 April 2019, a male dasher (photo below) was found at Quitobaquito Pond, where the species had already been observed once in the past during fall. The dasher had never been recorded in the state until late April (Bailowitz et al., 2015) and the present observation, therefore, extends its known flight period.
