The American Rubyspot had until now not been observed before 8 February (2015; R. Bailowitz, personal comm.) in Arizona. Extending the flight season of the species by several days, Justin Jones found a male of this species during a visit to Queen Valley, Pinal Co., on 4 February 2017. The following picture shows one of three females seen the next day at the same location.
