Blue-fronted Dancer, Argia apicalis, in Safford, Graham Co.

July 2, 2016

The Blue-fronted Dancer is a predominantly central and eastern United States species which, in Arizona, has been recorded only at a handful of locations. The presence of the dancer at some of these locations may result from accidental introduction during game fish stocking (Bailowitz et al., 2015).

On 2 July 2016 a male was discovered at a small artificial pond in Safford, Graham County. This record provides a new location for the species in the state of Arizona.
