The Straight-tipped Ringtail was discovered in the USA in fall 2008 (Santa Cruz Co., AZ) and not seen again until fall 2012 (Cochise Co., AZ). One male was found at Scotia Canyon (also Cochise Co.; alt. 1,740 m) on 6 October 2013, thereby providing a third US record of this species.
