Common Whitetail, Plathemis lydia, in Pinal Co., Arizona: New early flying date for the state

Until now the earliest date that the Common Whitetail had been recorded in Arizona was 31 March (2012). A teneral female of this species (photos below) was discovered along the Queen Valley stream on 8 March 2017. This observation extends the seasonal flying period of the species in the state by three weeks.
